I put up a new song on my little music player on the right.  It’s called La Bruja Blanca. It’s only a very rough demo, but I doubt that I’ll ever rerecord it, so might as well give it a listen before it’s lost forever like so many other songs in the history of time and music.

On April 25th there will be an out door celebration/show at the Echo Park Lodge in Echo Park. Right now we are hunting down bands who are willing to tone down and do shot acoustic sets from some other big dogs. This is a charity event for a soon to be known cause, which we are not at liberty to discuss.

I have a terrible time sleeping and thinking when the moon is full.  I turn into a werewolf, my mind races and disconnects from my usually clear/cloudy frame of thought.  The moon was closest to the Earth just two nights ago.  It’s magnetically pulling on my veins, wishing for a taste of my blood.  The moon is a harsh mistress.  In my lack of sleep I have been reading conspiracy theories and looking at lots of artwork.  Here is some mental garlic for those who have a love/hate relationship with our vampiric moon.

Nicolas Kalmakoff

In 1955, a Russian émigré died alone, unknown and in poverty at the hôpital de Lagny to the north of Paris. After leading a hermit’s existence in his small room at the hotel de la Rochefoucault in Paris, this former Russian aristocrat had created a fascinating body of work which, deemed eccentric and worthless, was locked away in storage and forgotten.  Throughout his solitary life, the artist had painted works that reflected his various obsessions with martyrdom, asceticism, decadence, spirituality and sexuality. Executed in a style marked by the Russian art nouveau, his imagery nevertheless transcended this movement, bearing undeniable traces of demented vision, indeed, genius.  Only in 1962 did some of his works come to light when Bertrand Collin du Bocage and Georges Martin du Nord discovered forty canvases in the Marché aux Puces, a large flea market to the north of Paris. All the works in this unusual collection were signed with a stylized ‘K’ monogram.  The Hungarian merchant who sold the lot to them included with it a poster of an exhibition held in Galerie Le Roy, Brussels, in 1924. Here, for the first time, the full name of the mysterious ‘K’ was revealed - Nicolas Kalmakoff.

ABOUT: Los Angeles’ Echo Park Lodge (a.k.a. the Black Lodge) is a dwelling rich in paranormal activity, including known registrations of the “Hum” phenomenon, apparition sightings, and cult activities related to Thelemic and other black magick teachings. Akasa vocalist Camerin Kelly descended directly into this den of iniquity on a solo mission to capture the influences of this spiritual graveyard, inspired by minimalist folk, dub echo, and the unearthly surroundings. The results are presented in the form of his alter ego, Lantern Black Lodge, in a recording known simply as, “Shine On You.”
